You've probably noticed that I haven't blogged about Jillian lately. That's because there hasn't been much news to tell since she's been sick since last Monday night. At that point in time, she had some coughing in the middle of the night - a sound so foreign to us (thank goodness!), that we both looked at each other perplexed! To be cautious (and fair to all the other mommies and babies), we didn't go to Gymboree the next day...we have since learned that that was a very good idea.
When I last blogged, I mentioned that we started giving her Rescon GG, and I suppose it's been helping, but her nose has still been running like a faucet!!! To make matters even more messy, Jillian is teething like crazy! Richard finally suggested to the dense mommy (me): "Should we maybe put a bib on her?" Definitely a good idea. Between the clear snot AND insane amount of drool, the child looks like she poured a cup of water on her shirt! I should've taken a picture of her shirt today, but perhaps tomorrow will offer an opportunity (or perhaps I'll remember the bib!).
Anyway, one huge problem with her being sick is the little sleep she's getting. She's coughing so much, and often times, so hard, that it wakes her up! Bless her heart :( My sweet baby is learning it's no fun to be sick. I called the nurse yesterday to see if there was anything else we could do, and she suggested that we try giving her 1/2 teaspoon of Claritin for kids every 24 hours. It should dry up all that drainage and hopefully lessen the amount of stuff that goes into her throat that makes her cough. We think it's working...seems that now the drool is winning out over the leaky nose. Hopefully it will begin to work with minimizing the coughing, too. I absolutely hate to see and hear her so miserable!
This morning, I had an 8am doctor's appointment to get a pain in my right side (flank area) checked out. I had to wake Jillian up around 7:15, and the whole time we were at the appointment (which was actually a while - had to do bloodwork to make sure I wasn't pregnant before then getting an x-ray, and then waiting for the doctor to look at it), Jillian was zombie-like. Her eyelids were red, she was sucking on her thumb, and she didn't even wave "hi" to anyone :( She was also in her pj's, so that definitely added to her tired look.
So the pains I've been having are most likely what I thought they would be: muscle pains. I wondered if they had anything to do with my surgery (and they still may - that can only be confirmed by a fasting sonogram - something I couldn't get b/c I had had breakfast), but the doctor thought that the fact that I'm only having pains when I sneeze, laugh, cough, or perform certain movements means that it's musculoskeletal - something not uncommon in young mothers toting around heavy babies. He gave me a list of back exercises to do and told me to apply heat - either in the form of a hot bath or heating pad - and take Ibuprofen, Advil, or Aleve as a preventative measure. I'm also supposed to "lift with caution" (in reference to Jillian). The back exercises were somewhat similar to yoga, so I went ahead and did that when I got home...Munchkin took it upon herself to sit right next to the side of my head when I was doing the relaxation portion on the floor at the very end of my session...somewhat defeating the purpose of those last several minutes, but it was pretty cute. And I did my 40 minute elliptical workout, just being careful not to make any movements that would aggravate that area. Anyway, I feel sorta bad about going to the doctor and getting x-rays and stuff done only to confirm what I thought it was, but I needed to make sure it wasn't anything more serious (he ruled out kidney and lung stuff). I also wanted to know that it was still okay for me to continue working out daily, with the occasional yoga session. Which brings me to another point - they say that it takes a certain number of days of doing something for it to become a "habit," and I think I've reached that point with working out. It feels weird when I haven't worked out by noon, and I never feel as good throughout the day when I don't workout. Anyway, I guess Jillian and I have gotten into a little bit of a routine in the mornings:
She wakes up around 8 or 9, we eat breakfast, play for a little bit, then she gets in the exersaucer and "reads" while I workout for 30-45 minutes. Then, depending on how tired she's acting, we'll either play more, or she'll go down for a nap. Then, during her nap, I shower, get ready for the day, and hopefully get some stuff done until she wakes up. We eat lunch, get her ready, and then run any necessary errands or play around the house/get stuff done until Daddy gets home! Whew! Just thought I'd lay that out there, since this blog is somewhat like another form of her baby book!
Here are some pictures we took recently...before Jillian got sick:

Swinging last Monday before getting sick...

Doesn't she look like a baby doll sitting in that swing?

Posing before Mommy goes out to meet up for a Holiday Girls' Night Out with Tara and the gang!

With a rediscovered toy...Jillian has mastered stacking the rings!
Okay, gotta go get some knitting done!
